State Government's Police Department as a part of their digital transformation has decided to digitize certain data and build a data lake which will then allow them to do analytics on this data leveraging technologies like Big Data, AI and Data Analytics. Our understanding of the scope is based on the multiple levels of discussions we had with J&K Police Department.

Client’s Goal

My Client wanted a search engine for open library. The library was hosted on multiple servers across different domains. The total size of the library was more than 3 TB (> 20 million documents) (PDF, XLS, DOCS, PPT). The search engine had to have a lot of filters and custom query parsers to narrow down the results.

How we did it:

  • Crawl multiple open document hosting sites and fetch documents from them (PDF, XLS, DOS, PPT).
  • Parse these documents using Apache Tika and extract text from it.
    • Total Documents : more than 20 million
  • Index these documents to Solr
    • Design the schema
    • Create Custom Fields
  • Design and Develop the Front End
    • Basic web page
    • Query Builder with various filters and settings
    • Custom Document Viewer
    • History Viewer to browse through the user’s history and run a query from history
  • Deploy and management of whole system on AWS EC2
  • Running the Steps from 1 to 3 in batches using automated
  • scripting
